Why Pet Warehouse and Pets First Came Together

When Pet Warehouse and Pets First started out, they were two different businesses & two different brands.

Pet Warehouse was built around a simple idea - making good quality pet products more accessible and affordable for pet parents.

Pets First was built with a similar thought at its core - making quality veterinary care more accessible and affordable.

As both the brands grew, we noticed something very interesting.

We noticed that the pet parents needed much more than just a product or a vet consultation.

A new pet parent might walk into a Pet Warehouse store looking for food, treats or accessories, but very often they also had questions.

“Which food is right for my puppy?”

“Is this treat okay?”

“My pet isn't eating properly. What should I do?”

“Does my pet really need this supplement?”

These were questions that couldn't always be answered from a retail counter. They needed the guidance of a veterinarian or someone with the right expertise.

And that made us look at pet care a little differently.

What if the pet parent didn't have to go to different places for everything their pet needed?

That thought became much clearer when Pet Warehouse and Pets First started operating together at our Kalyan Nagar centre.

The store and hospital were under the same roof, and the two businesses naturally began complementing each other.

A pet parent could consult a veterinarian, get the right guidance and then find the food or products they needed, or even avail grooming services all in one place. & a customer coming into the store could also easily access veterinary care when required.

The experience became simpler.

And we saw the impact - in customer footfall, in the growth of the store and hospital, and most importantly, the ease pet parents were able to access care.

It made us realise something important.

Pet care doesn't really exist in separate boxes.

Healthcare, nutrition, diagnostics, pharmacy, grooming, and retail are all connected. When a pet needs care, the pet parent doesn't think in terms of different businesses or services. They simply want to know where they can get the right help.

That is when the idea of bringing Pet Warehouse and Pets First together started making sense. It was never about combining two businesses simply for the sake of creating a larger business. It was about bringing together two parts of the same larger vision.

To create one ecosystem where pet parents could access the different things their pets need, all in one place.

The decision also meant that one of the two names would eventually have to become the identity for this larger ecosystem.

Pet Warehouse had been the right name for what it originally stood for - a place where pet parents could find food, treats, accessories and other pet products.

But we had grown beyond what Pet Warehouse originally stood for.

We were no longer just a retail business.

And throughout the journey, one thought had remained at the heart of everything we were trying to build:

Pets come first.

So Pets First became the natural identity for this next chapter.

Today, Pets First brings together veterinary care, diagnostics, pharmacy, grooming, and retail - with the intention of making the entire experience simpler and more connected for pet parents.

But the merger is not the end of the journey. It is simply the beginning of a larger one.

We want to continue building a pet care ecosystem that is accessible, affordable and, most importantly, centred around what matters most - the health and happiness of pets.

There is still a lot to build, a lot to learn and a lot we want to bring to pet parents across India.

But the thought that started this journey remains the same:

When pets come first, everything else should follow.
